Music From Nothing

Simply amazing. This project gives meaning to the lives of under-privileged children living in Paraguay by giving them access to music. And it is done in such an astonishing way–the instruments are constructed from pieces of trash, yet sound beautiful and stunningly close to their off-the-shelf counterparts. Also, I would never pass up the opportunity to recognize a great pun: they call themselves the “landfillharmonic”, which is simply brilliant.

Six Pack Tool Caddy

Sorry if I’ve misled you, but I too wish this post was referring to 6-packs of the abdominal variety. But still, this is a smart idea for toting around your crafting supplies, whether you decorate it or not. I have plenty of these 6-pack carriers at my disposal, especially now that Blue Moon’s Spring Blonde Wheat Ale is back on the shelves. Let the day drinking begin!

Tin Cans Drum Set

Check out this adorable drum set created from tin cans! I really think I’m going to snatch this idea…

Yummy Upcyling

These trashy products are a fun idea for making a permanent keepsake of your favorite food! These were found by Green Upgrader on Etsy, but it seems that store no longer exists.

Plastic Bag Heart Wreath

In honor of Valentine’s Day, we found this creative wreath made from old plastic shopping bags. Of course, ideally you would be using a reusable shopping bag at this point! But, if you can get ahold of some shopping bags this would be a perfect craft to make. I could see any color bag working, but I like the red and white color palette they’ve used here. Probably Target or the standard “Thank You” style bags?

Garbage Warrior

Garbage Warrior is a film documenting the works of Michael Reynolds, an architect that builds self-sufficient and completely sustainable homes essentially out of garbage. These so called “earthships” are popping up around the country and the world, but not without resistance. It looks really interesting! Check out the trailer below.

Shot over three years in the USA, India and Mexico, Garbage Warrior is a feature-length documentary film telling the epic story of maverick architect Michael Reynolds, his crew of renegade house builders from New Mexico, and their fight to introduce radically different ways of living. A snapshot of contemporary geo-politics and an inspirational tale of triumph over bureaucracy, Garbage Warrior is above all an intimate portrait of an extraordinary individual and his dream of changing the world.
